Students

The Recreation and Wellness Center is a unique collaborative and integrated health and wellness unit for students. It includes medical, mental health, massage, chiropractic, nutrition, health and wellness promotion, and recreational services. The Recreation and Wellness Center offers 4 gymnasiums, an elevated running track, state of the art fitness center with cardiovascular machines, weight machines, and free weights, auto-belay climbing wall, two aerobics and dance rooms, studios, an indoor pool with 4 lap lanes and a leisure swimming area including a slide and hot tub. Group fitness classes, personal training, and a Fitness Buddies accountability support program are also available free of cost to students. The Center has also partnered with Dean of Students to host a satellite location for Clyde’s Cupboard, the no-need based food pantry on campus available to all students. This location has seen some of the highest use among all Clyde’s Cupboards locations. In addition, there are over 10 intramural leagues, a free intramural tournament every week, club sports and Student Outdoor Learning Experience (SOLE) Center outdoor trips for all experience levels. The Recreation Center also rents outdoor equipment, completes bike maintenance and ski/board waxing at a low cost for materials. Special events, including Bash the Bluffs, RecFest, Indoor Triathlon, are available to the entire community.

The Wellness Center includes a waiting room, medical exam rooms, therapy rooms, a teaching kitchen for cooking classes and dietitian appointments, a group therapy room, and space for massage and chiropractic services. As a result of the integrated nature of the clinic, the patients are referred between medical, mental health, and dietitian services seamlessly and without hassle for the patient. The center hosts campus events such as health fairs and building expos to provide health screenings and teach healthy behaviors to campus, as well as promote their services. They also host free, monthly cooking classes for students to learn how to prepare and cook healthy meals. All students may use the UCCS Wellness Center for counseling (individual therapy, couples therapy, etc.), psychiatric (testing for formal diagnosis), medical, and dietitian services. Disability Services has been moved organizationally to report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health & Wellness to better align and coordinate support for students through diagnosis and accommodations. All students are provided 3 free Mental Health appointments every semester. Otherwise, appointments are $20 and the Wellness Center does not bill insurance, making these services available to all students regardless of insurance status. There are donor funds available for students with financial need to cover additional medical services at the Wellness Center or in the community (lab tests, x-rays, glasses, dental work, etc). The Wellness Center also provides TELUS Health, a 24/7 counseling service that students can access from anywhere in the world free of charge. "
