CU’s sports sustainability program, Ralphie's Green Stampede (RGS) is a shared effort between CU Athletics, Facilities Management, and the E-Center. The program consists of educational opportunities, carbon emission reporting, and zero waste practices. CUAD features four LEED Platinum buildings, including the Indoor Practice Facility which is designed to operate at zero-net energy and hosts the majority of the installed solar panels on campus. Numerous corporate sponsors support Athletics/RGS by promoting sustainability directly to CU sports fans on game days. All this is in an effort to influence students and fans to have a positive sustainable impact on and off the field.

Key points:
RGS ZW has respectfully achieved stadium waste diversions of 56%, 84%, and 86% for the 2023, 2022, and 2021 football seasons.
The 2023 metric shifted significantly due to major staff/coaching/team changes as well as compost facility ban of compostable products.
Of the 248,000 lbs. of waste created on gameday, RGS staff hand sorted 19,180 lbs. of clean compost, 56,302 lbs. of bottles and cans, and 19,913 lbs. of cardboard.
During the 2023 football season, RGS provided opportunities for 3 large groups to bring 20+ volunteers per game, boosting hours to 420, which was a 113 hour increase from last season. For the basketball season we recorded 266 hours worked at games. RGS Volunteers help educate fans about sustainability, while earning class credit or community service hours.
