2023 Campus Sustainability Survey: Office of Data Analytics produced a stratified sample of undergraduate and graduate students. The survey was sent out to the sample (n=4,499), with an 21% response rate for culture-related questions (n=947). The question "How frequently do you engage in sustainability-themed events and programs on campus and in your community (in person or virtual)?" received responses of 79% rarely; 17% sometimes (1-2x semester); 4% often (monthly or more frequently). For this response, we are only counting sometimes and often at 21%. We compare this result with First Year Experience Survey and Second Year Experience Survey. In both of these surveys, Students were asked "How often did you engage in sustainability programs, services, and events?" Of the 904 first-year students who responded to this question, 47% said never, 29% said rarely, 18% said sometimes, and 5% said often. Of the 902 second-year students who responded to this question, 49% said never, 28% said rarely, 18% said sometimes, and 5% said often. The 23% responding as sometimes and often in the experience surveys corroborates the 21% participation rate of the Campus Sustainability Survey.
