The survey instrument that serves the foundation for the current survey was developed in 2009 with an assessment professional and Environmental Center staff for incoming students. The Environmental Center has conducted surveys of behavior and values since it's founding in 1970. The 2020 Survey consulted with graduate students working with Dr. Leaf van Boven's lab. Van Boven’s research lies at the intersection of social, environmental, and political psychology. He uses laboratory experiments, national surveys, and field studies to examine the processes that shape people’s everyday lives.
