Student Sustainability Advocates

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):

The Student Sustainability Advocates help run Office of Sustainability outreach events. For example, they staff informational tables at many events on campus, help provide programs in residence halls, lead discussions after film series events, teach sustainability-related skill workshops, and encourage fans to recycle at sporting events. Sustainability Advocates are interviewed by Office of Sustainability staff and hired based on their qualifications and skills. The Sustainability Coordinator oversees the Sustainability Advocates. All Advocates are paid hourly wages for their work.

Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):

Students help teach and facilitate the Environmental Literacy Certificate program. Students must have first earned the Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement or served as a Sustainability Advocate. Students receive training in how to facilitate group discussions and create a welcoming, non-judgmental space in which productive discussions can occur. The President's Advisory Council on Environment and Sustainability (PACES) as well as the Office of Sustainability provide staff time to oversee the Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement program and all participating educators.
