A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives, including how workers are engaged in monitoring and advising on health and safety programs:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Department conducts job safety analyses for all job categories. Other health and safety initiatives include field inspections, training programs, and constant development/revision of safety policies and procedures. The EHS team conducts thorough accident investigations in which the employee and her/his supervisor are fully engaged in a process designed to elucidate the underlying cause, as well as the most appropriate corrective action. Finally, EHS has instituted an Employee Safety Award Program that recognizes employees and academic/administrative units who have demonstrated proactive measures to reduce employee accidents and promote safety-related initiatives.
