All students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) requirements. Low-income students are likely to receive larger amounts of grants and aid.

UCSC provides various free and low-cost fresh and healthy food options for all students. https://basicneeds.ucsc.edu/resources/on-campus-food

Not-for-profit cafes:
The Cowell Coffee Shop is a student-run cafe designed to increase food security by providing free food to all students. Offerings include custom made bowls from our new Chowbotics unit, fresh pressed juices, coffee, food recovery items from our campus and community partners, and more! The Redwood Cafe, features produce, dry goods, and CalFresh information to students everyday except Sundays.

Produce Pop-Up:
A weekly organic farm stand for the UC Santa Cruz community. As a part of Basic Needs, Produce Pop-Up aims to provide low-cost and free healthy, organic food. Open to the entire campus community, we will be popping up at different locations around campus twice a week with produce grown by students at the on-campus farm.

Work Study:
A Work-Study option will be offered as financial aid to eligible students who submit a FAFSA application. Students must apply for part-time jobs and may earn up to the amount of the Work-Study award they accept.

Graduate Student Researchers:
Salary scales increased by 3% effective October 1, 2021 (October 3 if on a biweekly pay schedule).

Slug Support:
The UCSC Slug Support Program was created to promote early intervention with students of concern to prevent culminating problems from escalating into a crisis. The goal of the Slug Support Program is to identify students of concern and develop an action plan focusing on retention through provision of support and resources.

The UCSC STARS program offers support to diverse populations of non-traditional students, including part-time, veteran and transfer students. This includes an orientation program in which all students participate.
