A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:

UCSC's topography has made the implementation of current electric vehicle technology challenging and costly. Being located in a forest also has made mass deployment of charging infrastructure slow and costly. Nevertheless, we continue to seek new lithium-ion based battery vehicles for the campus and eagerly await the availability of major Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Electric Vehicle(EV) trucks and vans for deployment into the majority of our fleet. In the meantime, we have been fueling our diesel vehicles with Renewable Diesel since 2019 and continue to power our refuse operations with CNG.
