The UCSC Sustainability Office new professional staff are all required to complete the Diversity & Inclusion Certificate Program which includes at least 8 3hr trainings. https://diversity.ucsc.edu/education/certificate_program/index.html

Starting in Feb. 2022 the Sustainability & Equity Special Projects Manager, holds yearly DEI trainings and beginning in Mar. 2022 the office will hold bi-weekly check ins to uphold the actions in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement of UC Sustainability Offices and Staff.

Started in 2020, the Sustainability Office staff has had regular meetings that focus on a DEI topic that one staff member will choose on a rotating basis.

The Special Projects Coordinator is the Sustainability Office's primary liaison for the People of Color Sustainability Collective (PoCSC). PoCSC collaborates with the Sustainability Office's Sustainability and Environmental Justice Ambassadors on quarterly programs.

For example, the Sustainability Office's Sustainability and Environmental Justice Ambassadors recently partnered with PoCSC on the organization and promotion of a Food for Thought event. See additional documentation upload for details about the event.

Sust. Office position: Sustainability and Diversity Educational Programs Manager

Duties:
Identifies opportunities for innovation and increased educational efforts to support diversity, social justice, equity, as well as multi-culturally relevant and inclusive sustainability programs.

Serves as primary liaison to the People of Color Sustainability Collective (PoCSC), including supporting faculty-led academic research efforts and student programming efforts.

Develops strong working relationships to support ongoing partnerships and effective co-programming with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI), Ethnic Resource Centers (ERCs), Colleges 9 & 10, Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES), and others as appropriate.

Directly supervises 4-6 student employees and interns working on a variety of programs and initiatives including social justice and equity, multi-culturally inclusive sustainability, employee sustainability education, academic research and more.
