UCSC participates in the Real Food Challenge and the Environmental Protection Agency's sustainability programs, including the Food Waste Recovery Challenge.

UCSC is an active member in multiple groups with in the UC system managed by the UC Office of the President (UCOP). The overarching, higher level groups include the Global Climate Leadership Council (https://ucop.edu/carbon-neutrality-initiative/global-climate-council/index.html) and the Sustainability Steering Committee (https://www.ucop.edu/sustainability/policy-areas/sustainability-steering-committee.html)

UCSC is a founding signatory and member of the Monterey Bay Regional Climate Action Compact and a member of the Central Coast Climate Collaborative.

2018: Kristen Lee, Sustainability Programs Manager, presented at the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference and the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) Conference with presentations entitled: “The Circular Relationship between Food Waste & Food Production” and “Leveraging Institutional Education and Outreach Resources to Achieve Zero Waste”.

Chrissy Thomure, past Climate Action Manager, served on the City of Santa Cruz's Community & Climate Action Taskforce, 2017

Patrick Testoni, Campus Energy Manager, is a board member to Ecology Action, as of March 2018.

Kristin Lee, Program Manager, Sustainability Office, is a board member to Bike Santa Cruz County, as of March 2018.

Employees from UCSC's Sustainability Office participate in a UC wide sustainability group (Climate Abatement Technical Committee) that works with one another and the UC Office of the President to help identify reporting protocols and to inform the development of one another’s sustainability programs.
Sustainability Office staff also participate in a UC wide STARS working group to share best reporting practices.
