A brief description of the institution’s LGBTQ-inclusive policies, programs and practices:
The Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity (RCSGD) works with students, staff and faculty to ensure that LGBTQ identities, experiences and concerns are represented and addressed at UCSB. The center provides many programs and resources aimed at inclusion of LGBTQ individuals and educating the broader UCSB community on LGBTQ issues. Some of the resources offered include awareness workshops with topics such as LGBTQ 101, Trans* Identities, Queer People of Color and Religion, Hate Crime Prevention and Intervention, and Safe Zone Training. One of RCSGD main resources for LGBTQ individuals is a mentorship program that connects students to a staff or faculty member to guide them throughout the year in their growth and development. The center also hosts an annual leadership retreat and provides access to local and national conferences. On a university wide level, UCSB Student Health offers a transgender healthcare specialist to assist students in their medical needs, and the Office of the Registrar also allows student to input their preferred name for class rosters without legal documentation. Gender Inclusive restrooms are also available throughout campus, with multiple in all newly constructed buildings.
