A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
Facilities Management holds mandatory training classes for all grounds staff on sustainable techniques, fertilization, tree and shrub pruning. They instituted the Grounds For Grounds program at UCSB, where staff collect all coffee grounds from the on-campus coffee carts and use them for landscaping purposes. Additionally, Facilities Management encourages employees within the department to participate in the Green Gardener Program. The Green Gardener Program for Santa Barbara County educates local gardeners in resource efficient and pollution prevention landscape maintenance practices. It is a regional program designed to offer education, training, and promotion of participating gardeners and landscape maintenance contractors.
