A brief description of the green laboratory program, including the specific initiatives selected above:
The LabRATS program at UCSB provides the LabSYNC Certification process to help assess, improve, and recognize sustainable laboratory practices on campus. LabRATS, the team that carries out the assessment and certification process, will go into a lab and score 91 individual practices in the areas of energy, water, waste, green chemistry, procurement, communication and training, field work, equipment management, cold storage, and innovative practices. After this initial assessment and scoring, the LabRATS team then provides recommendations specific to the needs of each laboratory. 18.8% of laboratories on campus (a total of 55 laboratories have been assessed by LabRATS. A copy of the scoring sheet used, including all of the lab criteria assessed, can be found as additional documentation below.
