The UC Santa Barbara Living Well Program offers a variety of services and events: Walk UCSB WALK UCSB is a FREE program designed to improve the general health of the faculty and staff of the University of California, Santa Barbara through daily movement. The Recreation Department and the Department Business Services will provide you with a pedometer, access to a web-based activity tracker, walking routes, email notices, contests, prizes, events, resources, and more! http://www.recreation.ucsb.edu/walk/ Fit Squad The UCSB FIT SQUAD is a fun and FREE program, and, as a member of the UCSB staff or faculty, you can participate in regular (two days per week) 10-30-minute (depending on location) strength-training workouts at a location near your office each week. All workouts are led by nationally-certified personal trainers, incorporate numerous pieces of equipment (e.g., dumbbells, resistance bands, physio balls, medicine balls, etc.), and are designed for ALL FITNESS LEVELS. Power Walk UCSB POWER WALK UCSB is our newest program and provides resistance training and flexibility exercises to be incorporated within a regular walking program. As an upgrade to the WALK UCSB program, POWER WALK provides any staff or faculty member who signs up with a DVD and resistance band to begin learning and practicing strength training exercises while out on their walks! It's simple and easy and a great way to add some strength to your walking program! Eat Right UCSB EAT RIGHT UCSB is a free nutritional program offered to staff and faculty. The initial 6 weeks of the program will involve monitoring and/or modifying your eating behaviors. During these weeks, you will be presented with two questions on which you can rate yourself, using the provided scale. Each week, you will answer two additional questions for a total of 12 questions by Week 6. Each question is worth a maximum of 5 points. Following the 6th week, the program will continue, and you will answer 12 questions each day until the end of the program. To submit your answers, use the "Record Eating Points for this day" button. If you missed a day or would like to revise previous days, you can! Click the date you'd like to change on the calendar and enter/adjust your points. The notes section is for your own use and may be filled out at your discretion. Caretaker Support Group This group addresses the various issues and uncertainties faced when becoming caretakers for your aging loved ones. Whether you are caretaking from a distance, have your parent(s) living at your home or in a nursing facility, or are anticipating needing to become more involved in the near future, many find it helpful to share their experiences through the stages of caregiving, all the way to the end of life. Resource & referral information for elder care is also available. Weight Watchers During the monthly meeting, if you'd like, you can enjoy a delicious Weight Watcher's meal from the Faculty Club. UCSB Reading Group The UCSB Reading Group is a great new opportunity to discuss and learn from your peers, make new friends on campus, and enjoy some cookies and tea! Books will be chosen that are relevant to work, decision making, and ethics. The UCSB Reading Group will provide a unique opportunity to think aloud about what you have gathered from the book and to learn from others for an even deeper appreciation of the material. Weekend Field Trips Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Come join the Wellness Interns on field trips around the UCSB area! These fun and interactive field trips are a great way to try new things, meet new people, and promote your physical, social, and mental wellness. Absolutely everybody is welcome, so bring your friends too! Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at UCSB CSA at UCSB gives students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to invest in an organic farmer from Goleta, John Givens, and get a fresh box of produce weekly. The benefits of CSA are numerous. As a CSA member, you receive boxes of fresh, seasonal, and organic produce, reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to transporting food, reduce solid waste due to less packaging, and aid community building through supporting a local business.
