A brief description of the plan of action to achieve water use reduction goals:

UCSB established its basline for tracking water in 1997/98, 1998/99, and 1999/2000. We use a three year baseline to account for varying weather patterns. We also use a three year rolling average for the current snapshot of use for this same purpose. This also helps us, as many of the reduction projects take longer than one academic year (or they cross academic years) to implement. From our baseline year, we have achieved an overall reduction (potable and reclaimed) of 25%. We have established a set of goals that are part of our Campus Sustainability Plan to achieve additional reductions in potable water. In academic year 2011/2012, we began to craft the Water Management Plan (WAP). This plan will detail water use and identify additional measures for reductions.
