A brief description of the plan:
The University of California, Santa Barbara's bike system is managed by AS Bicycle Improvements Keep Everyone Safe (BIKES). AS BIKES is responsible for the improvements to and the maintenance of the bicycle system, including path repaving, new paths, and new and upgraded bike parking. There are an estimated 14,000 bikes on campus each day, and, as a result, AS BIKES and UCSB are continually expanding efficient parking and continual path maintenance.
UCSB's Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) also contains a section regarding the University's bike system and pedestrian pathways. The LRDP describes the current system and also includes information on how the University plans to expand its current pathways and facilities in order to accomodate the ever increasing bike population on campus.

In 2011, UCSB was recognized by the American Bicyclists' inaugural Bicycle Friendly University program. Out of 32 nominees, UCSB was one of only two Gold Award-winning universities.
