A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

The Chancellor's Sustainability Internship Program is a capstone program available to undergraduate students with prior internship experience (or the equivalent) who seek to advance sustainability goals on campus or in the local community.

The program goals are to:
1) Encourage undergraduate initiatives for campus and community-level sustainability projects
2) Offer students in all academic disciplines an opportunity to actuate and apply their education in sustainability and gain practical experience
3) Facilitate partnerships between faculty, staff, students, and the community.

The Chancellor’s Sustainability Internship helps to increase awareness of sustainable development, create an institutional culture of sustainability, and educate for a environmentally Responsible citizenship, the first three commitments under the Talloires Declaration which was signed by then UCSB Chancellor Uehling; and to facilitate implementation of the Campus Sustainability Plan approved by Chancellor Yang in 2008.

This program moves beyond our other internship programs on the campus in terms of its focus on linking academic developments to hands-on projects, its extensive training programs, and the prestige associated with the Chancellor's support of the program.
