All inputted data represents most recent operational characteristics as time of this report. 

The institutional boundaries for UC San Diego's greenhouse gas reporting (OP-2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions) includes the Hillcrest Medical Center, while the institutional boundaries for building operations and maintenance, energy, waste, and water only include the La Jolla campus per The Climate Registry reporting procedures (OP-4 Building Operations and Maintenance, OP-5 Building Energy Efficiency, OP-18 Waste Minimization, and OP-21 Water Use). The Hillcrest Medical Center is located 13 miles from the La Jolla campus. 

The UC Office of the President and its annual sustainability data collection and reporting from campuses requires reporting in OGSF50 (which includes 50% of the outside). Gross floor area of building space was calculated using OGSF50. 

 

SOURCES AND METHODOLOGY FOR OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS: 

The following GSF was used for the following credits: 

  • OP-2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 23,687,863 GSF 

  • OP-4 Building Ops and Maintenance: 21,389,383 GSF 

  • OP-5 Building Energy Efficiency: 19,491,181 GSF 

  • OP-21 Water Use: 17,890,461 GSF 

 

Clarification on numbers used for floor area of laboratory space, floor area of healthcare space, and floor area of energy intensive space: The numbers used for this 2024 report vary in comparison to the numbers used in the 2021 report due to improved classification of laboratory space, healthcare space, and energy intensive space in order to adhere to the definitions provided in the technical manual.
