A brief description of notable policies or programs to make the institution accessible and affordable to low-income students:

The Student Retention & Success (SRS) team (https://srs.ucsd.edu/) within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life empowers and supports students in their academic, personal, and professional growth through collaborative facilitation of programs and services that disrupt systemic equity gaps.

The SRS spotlights:

    • Students must have demonstrated financial need and family incomes of $80,000 or less.

    • Graduates of UC San Diego Partner High Schools (including The Preuss School UCSD, Lincoln High School, and Gompers Preparatory Academy) who accept offers of admissions to UC San Diego may receive up to $40,000 in scholarship support.

  • Two TRIO programs, in which at least 2/3 of students must be low-income and first-generation.

    • TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSSP) (https://oasis.ucsd.edu/programs/trio/index.html) extends eligibility to include students with disabilities. The main goal of SSSP is to create a home-base environment where supportive learning takes place using a holistic approach focusing on a student’s academic, cultural and social experience at UC San Diego. Students receive academic support, develop supportive peer networks, participate in a variety of activities designed to enhance their success at UC San Diego, and increase their awareness of graduate and professional programs.

A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:

The following Student Retention & Success (SRS) programs support non-traditional students:

  • The Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) (https://svrc.ucsd.edu/) supports many military-affiliated students, with the average age of student veterans being 26 years old.

  • Undocumented Student Services (https://uss.ucsd.edu/) serves undocumented students through a holistic approach that encompasses personal guidance, immigration legal services, community building, partnerships, and referrals. The programs and services are designed to help students overcome obstacles that arise from their immigration status and support them through personal and academic excellence.
