A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

UC San Diego’s New Employee Orientation is offered online via the UC Learning Center on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month to staff and faculty (https://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/services/new/orientation/index.html). All new employees must attend the New Employee Orientation within their first 30 days of employment. The full orientation lasts 1.5 hours, with approximately 5 minutes dedicated to campus sustainability. The sustainability segment is a pre-recorded presentation sharing the history of sustainability at UC San Diego, highlights and achievements, and ways to get involved in campus sustainability efforts. This includes information about green buildings, water conservation practices, sustainable transportation options, and campus waste diversion efforts.

Following completion of the New Employee Orientation, all participants receive a follow-up email links to all resources discussed during the orientation. Sustainability @ UC San Diego (https://sustainability.ucsd.edu/) is one of the included links. Attachment below.

Housing*Dining*Hospitality conducts an additional orientation for their own employees, with sustainability serving as a key topic of introduction. Also, all new or visiting Principal Investigators must complete New PI Orientation prior to operating any lab facility, or direct or supervise any employees within any lab facility (https://blink.ucsd.edu/safety/resources/training/general-lab.html#Principal-Investigators). Sustainability topics such as energy efficiency and water conservation are included in the orientation.
