The University of California and UCSD in particular offers students sustainability focused and related study abroad immersion programs (https://studyabroad.ucsd.edu/students/programs/index.html) in countries like Costa Rica, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Thailand and more. Examples of programs offered include Global Challenges- Sustainable Futures (https://uceap.universityofcalifornia.edu/programs/berlin-summer/academics), Biodiversity (https://uceap.universityofcalifornia.edu/programs/biodiversity/academics) and Biological and Environmental Sciences (https://studyabroad.ucsd.edu/_files/major/environsysmap.pdf).Other study abroad programs can be searched by course or program at https://uceap.universityofcalifornia.edu/uceap-course-catalog. In addition, since 2008, UCSD has offered a special study abroad option, UC San Diego Global Seminars, which are 5-week summer programs (2 courses = 8 units) taught by UCSD faculty in different countries around the world. They are enriching experiences for both students and faculty, involving both in-class time and local excursions. Currently offered Environmental Systems Global Seminars (https://studyabroad.ucsd.edu/students/programs/global-seminars/esys.html) series include "The High Sierras in World and Environmental History" (https://studyabroad.ucsd.edu/students/programs/global-seminars/yosemite/index.html.) This is an outdoor program that focuses on engagement with the natural environment. The program explores the conservation and preservation movements, past and present exploitation of natural resources, issues of water in California and World history, climate change and fire, outdoor engagement and well-being, environmental justice and environmental racism.
