https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/compensation-and-benefits/fairwage/index.html On Wednesday, July 22, 2015, University of California President Janet Napolitano announced a new minimum wage plan for UC employees. Titled the “UC Fair Wage/Fair Work Plan”, the program guarantees that by October 2017 UC employees hired to work at least 20 hours a week be paid at least $15 per hour. The plan also requires that contractors doing business with UC guarantee a $15 minimum hourly wage for their workers, ensuring that any workers being paid through a UC contract are paid fairly. The plan includes several measures to ensure contractors comply with the new minimum wage, as well as all federal, state, and UC workplace law and policies, including a telephone hotline for contract workers to report issues, and annual and periodic audits. With this plan, UC is the first public university in the United States to voluntarily establish a $15/hour minimum wage.

MIT Living Wage Calculator: http://livingwage.mit.edu/metros/41740. We used a rough estimation that an hourly wage of $19.60 would translate into a yearly salary pre-tax of $40,768 (40 hours/week no overtime, 52 weeks/year). See page 43 of the 2014 University of California Workforce Profile for an estimate of staff salary ranges (not including faculty): https://www.ucop.edu/institutional-research-academic-planning/_files/workforce-profiles/workforce-profile-2014.pdf. According to this report, most UC staff employees with an annualized salary rate of less than $40,000 are Non-Career staff, primarily students. The largest percentage of Career staff falls within the salary range of $40,000 to $59,000, and the average annualized salary rate for all Career staff in 2014 was $76,013 – a 5% increase over the 2013 average. About half of Career staff have an annualized salary rate of $60,000 and over. The collective bargaining process is on-going, so salaries and benefits are constantly being evaluated. http://www.ucop.edu/institutional-research-academic-planning/_files/workforce-profiles/Workforce-Profile-2013-Updated1-20-2015.pdf All Senior Leadership Compensation Group and Manager and Senior Professionals (MSP) MSP) employees make over $30.94 an hour: http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/comp-class/compensation/ranges/slcg-07.html http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/comp-class/compensation/ranges/msp-18.html. Professional and Support Staff (PSS) 1-7 staff may earn under $30.94 an hour: http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/comp-class/compensation/ranges/pss-18.html Few student employees make over $30 an hour: http://blink.ucsd.edu/HR/comp-class/compensation/ranges/st-17.html Contract workers employed on UCSD public works project, which include construction, repair and maintenance work are paid prevailing wages, which are higher than the living wage for San Diego. http://www.dir.ca.gov/OPRL/2018-1/PWD/Southern.html The lowest paid Lecturer on campus makes 58,945 a year.
