On February 6, 2018, the University of California announced that it had assembled an international coalition of 13 research universities across the United States, Canada and Mexico - called the University Climate Change Coalition, or UC3 - who were committing to work together to galvanize local and regional action on climate change. Member institutions represent more than 1.5 million students across North America. The coalition will release a report in fall 2018 that will serve as a roadmap for how local, state, and federal lawmakers, higher education institutions, businesses and community leaders can work together to achieve ambitious, research-tested climate goals.

In 2016, UCSD Won a 2016 California Best Practice Water Efficiency/Site Water Quality Award for its Reclaimed Water Pipeline Expansion and Central Plants Cooling Tower Retrofit: https://chesc.org/best-practice-awards/2016-best-practice-award-winners/.
In 2017, UCSD won California Higher Education Sustainability Conference Best Practice awards for its Monitoring Based Commissioning Program and Electric Vehicle Affordability and Charging Accessibility Strategy: https://chesc.org/wp-content/uploads/CHESCprogramFull_Final.pdf.

UC San Diego Campus Sustainability Manager Sara McKinstry was an AASHE Advisory Council Member for three years: http://www.aashe.org/about/councils.
UC San Diego Director of Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality Dave Weil is on the Board of the San Diego Green Building Council and represents the campus on the regional Energy Working Group.
UC San Diego Interim Director of Dining Lisa Joy is on the Board of Slow Food San Diego.

UC San Diego holds quarterly peer-to-peer meetings with other local campus energy managers and staff engaged in carbon neutrality programs.

UC San Diego has reached out to sister local campuses for future collaborations on STARS submissions.

A brief description of other collaborative efforts around sustainability during the previous year:
UC San Diego staff participate and often coordinate San Diego area energy manager/efficiency meetings and trainings. We also actively participate in the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative and regional efforts on climate planning and action. Finally we are engaged in city, county and regional planning around energy planning, water conservation, stormwater management, and environmental planning.
