A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
The US San Diego Sustainability Programs Office staff and student interns maintain the UC San Diego Sustainability Course Inventory by going through online course catalogues and departmental websites every fall. The draft inventory is then sent to administrators, deans, provosts, chairs, and academic staff -- in particular from the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Council of Undergraduate Education Committee, and the Office of the Dean of the Graduate Division -- to make additions or corrections. Through those offices each spring an email is sent to all faculty asking them to review the inventory on the SPO website and to send any corrections, changes or additions to the SPO's email address. At any time, however, UC San Diego administrators, faculty, lecturers and staff can email updates to the SPO for review, confirmation and inclusion.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Not applicable; no courses with multiple offerings or sections were included

A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted (if different from the options outlined above):
If a course was cross-listed with another department, it was only counted under one department. If an undergraduate and graduate version of a course is offered, its undergraduate course number counted towards the undergraduate course count, while the graduate version counted towards the graduate count.
