A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Car Sharing: UC San Diego has adopted two car sharing initiatives to limit the number of vehicles parked on campus and to promote alternative transportation. Zipcar UC San Diego partners with Zipcar to help lower the amount of cars driven to campus. Zipcar provides vehicles for rent and UC San Diego provides parking and customers (students, staff, and faculty). Zipcar is redefining the way people think about transportation. Zipcar helps limit cars on the road, reduces congestion and pollution, helps students, staff, and faculty to understand why these things are a problem, and helps to find sustainable solutions. Zipcar’s gold standard service, allows all members 24/7 access to a various cars around the UC San Diego campus. Zipcar helps reduce the number of cars on the road, save cost from gasoline purchases and vehicle maintenance, and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions released. Getaround UC San Diego also partners with Getaround, a car sharing network that enables vehicles owners to rent their vehicles to other individuals when not being used. Getaround helps establish the ultimate car sharing community; people can share cars with people nearby. Getaround strives to develop a new world with fewer cars and less traffic and pollution. This network wants to help change the way the world thinks about their cars.
