A brief description of the themed semester, year, or first-year experience:
UC San Diego sponsors a study abroad global seminar in Dublin, Ireland called Sustainability and Organic Food: Intensive Writing Courses (Muir Writing 40 & 50). This global seminar focuses on debates over sustainable agriculture and intensive farming in the heart of the organic farming movement in Ireland. Additionally, the theme of UC San Diego’s John Muir College is the Environment. Muir College supports local, national, and global efforts to preserve the natural environment and to promote environmental sustainability in energy and water use, waste disposal, food production, and other practices. To celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2007-2008, Muir challenged its students, faculty, staff and alumni to give 40 Gifts of Service to the environment.
