Ranging from pharmaceuticals derived from marine organisms to nature-inspired energy saving technology for storing biological samples without freezers, speakers from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the San Diego Zoological Society, and Biomatrica will describe their research, their commercial impact, and the innovative partnerships between San Diego’s non-profit organizations and industry that are helping create a more sustainable future and support our region as a world leader in clean tech innovation. Additionally, UC San Diego sponsored Water Awareness Month in November 2009. According to the event's website, November was dedicated to addressing and combating our problem of wasting and polluting water, fostering the social and environmental benefits of clean, safe and efficient water systems. The goal was to spread awareness, unify existing efforts and accelerate the growth of new ones by working together on campus water issues through the screening of films and water conservation challenges. Lastly, there are also more long-term sustainability events at UC San Diego.
