A brief description of the diversity, equity, and/or inclusion recognition:

In 2018, UCR was recognized as one of INSIGHT into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award recipients. The award highlights the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrated by its efforts to recruit and retain students and faculty from underrepresented populations. As part of the University Innovation Alliance (UIA), the university fosters diversity within its campus in order to guide students from across the socioeconomic spectrum through their academic career. Recently, UCR boasted an 88.2% first-year retention rate for first-generation students. As of Fall 2019, the university achieved a first-generation freshman enrollment of 57%. UCR H1ghlander First-Generation Project, led by the assistant vice provost of Undergraduate Education, hosts events, activities, and programs to celebrate and uplift first-generation communities.
