A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:
The University of California has adopted a system-wide policy requiring that all recyclers used by the University be e-Steward certified by the Basel Action Network (BAN). In the case where the University has established take-back programs with a manufacturer, the University will encourage the manufacturer to become a BAN certified e-Steward Enterprise.
A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:
We first use a reuse/resale program through materiel management to divert e-waste from landfill. All e-waste is responsibly diverted via EH&S.
A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for student-generated materials :
Student e-waste is collected by EH&S through programs in Housing. The City of Riverside also offers e-waste events that anyone can bring their waste for disposal.
