A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:

The Office of Campus Climate was created to coordinate and support strategic initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion at UC Merced for all campus constituents. Director De Acker works with others throughout the campus on accountability, infrastructure and resources that support inclusive excellence, where equal opportunity, mutual respect and cross-cultural collaboration are fostered. The Office also develops an integrated conflict-management system for faculty, staff and students to voice their concerns, work to resolve issues and contribute to a conflict-competent organization.

The website for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be released in early 2016 is diversity.ucmerced.edu and conflict.ucmerced.edu. The Campus is in the process of recruiting for a newly created position of Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer who should be hired by spring, 2019.

The Office of Student Life provides training's for students in social justice, women and LGBTQ+ issues and initiatives found at http://studentlife.ucmerced.edu/

The Graduate Division has a Graduate Dean's Advisory Council on Diversity (GDACD) that is dedicated to enhancing and strengthening a culture of open inquiry, pluralism, mutual respect, and engagement among and for — UC Merced graduate students through the work of the council itself and through the active advisement of the Dean.

Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture and Inclusion (CCCI) at UC Merced was created to provide ongoing evaluation of campus climate conditions, practices and policies; suggest measures that will support the goals of inclusion and community, especially including measures reflecting promising practices from elsewhere in UC and the nation; coordinate its analyses, recommendations and other work with related work of any entities created by faculty, staff, students, or neighboring communities; and fulfill other campus-specific responsibilities identified by the Chancellor.

The Academic Senate Committee on Diversity and Equity participates in the Systemwide University Committee on Affirmative Action and Diversity. It initiates studies and reports on campus, reviews revisions to institutional policies and procedures as they relate to D&E, and reviews information on D&E and advises the Division and the administration accordingly.

A “Diversity Awareness Program Committee has formed to create a Diversity Awareness Program Certificate. The workshops are listed at https://diversity.ucmerced.edu/trainings-and-workshops/list-workshops-and-trainings

A Diversity Certificate Program will be offered again, starting in January, 2019.
