All new building projects target a minimum construction diversion of 95% and is put into the contractor's specifications to do so. In addition, UC Merced campus Triple Zero commitment is to produce zero waste by 2020.

UC Merced has also been working locally with Waste Management as a partner to provide ideas and techniques that can help both the community and the campus divert waste overall.
