A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
UC Merced participates in a number of community sustainability partnerships, including:
Green Team Merced, which is a program by the Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce that works to bring sustainability awareness to local businesses, and encourages environmentally responsible business choices.
The UC Merced chapter of Energy Service Corps, which is a student-run organization whose framework is provided by AmeriCorps and the California Public Interest Research Group. The Energy Service Corps educates community members about sustainability and ways to reduce energy use, and takes on sustainability projects in the community, such as weatherizing a local homeless mission.
UC Merced participates in the City of Merced Climate Action Ad-Hoc Planning Committee, which is working to develop and implement a set of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life in Merced. The Committee is now in the implementation stage of its plan.
