A brief description of the plan:
UC Merced's relatively flat topography has enabled the campus to develop a comprehensive bicycle network plan for the campus. As demonstrated by the 2009 Long Range Development Plan, Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 bicycle routes penetrate each of the student neighborhoods and the academic core.
To facilitate a culture of bicycle transit, the plan contemplates the incorporation of amenities such as bike lockers (in addition to bike racks) at new buildings, as well as shower facilities in all new buildings. To ease interaction with other modes of transportation, the plan provides that campus transit and shuttle vehicles will be designed to accommodate the transport of bicycles.
