Prior to 2009, UC campuses were required to certify projects in accordance with LEED standards, following the same 4-tier structure and requirements, but independent review was by the UC Office of the President. UCLA has two projects completed within the last five years that were certified as UC LEED-Equivalent, meaning they were required to meet the standards for LEED but the UC did not submit for certification:
