GRADUATE STUDENTS
Sponsored by a Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE) program aims to increase the number of minorities and women underrepresented in their disciplines receiving doctoral degrees at UC Irvine.

UNDERGRADUATES
The California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, is a statewide initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The objective of CAMP is to strengthen the quality and quantity of underrepresented students receiving baccalaureate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of California (UC). CAMP offers extensive resources and unique opportunities for students to excel in their respective fields of study. The CAMP program began at UC Irvine in 1991.

The American Indian Summer Institute in Earth System Science is a free two-week residential summer program for Native high school students currently in grades 8-11. This program aims to address the critical need for Earth and Environmental Science professionals within tribal communities.

The Cross-Cultural Center at UCI is dedicated to creating and maintaining a socially just campus, fostering the cultural identities within our community and providing opportunities for intellectual exchange, student leadership development and community engagement.

The Student Achievement Guided by Experience, or SAGE Scholars program dedicated to helping high-achieving and economically disadvantaged students in developing their professional skills. Through the SAGE Scholars Program, students develop their professional and leadership capabilities and gain exposure into business and corporate settings.

Reaffirming Ethnic Awareness and Community Harmony, known as R.E.A.C.H., is an educational outreach program of the Cross-Cultural Center devoted to increasing awareness and knowledge of the issues and topics important to community harmony in a multicultural world. R.E.A.C.H. consists of a select group of UCI students trained through a year-long class (AfAm 198) to present workshops on multicultural and ethnic diversity topics. R.E.A.C.H. Facilitators are chosen from various segments of the campus community, and share a dedication to building a harmonious academic and social environment at UCI.

CMST is the California Math and Science Teaching Initiative (formerly the Community Teaching Fellowship in Math and Science - CTFMS), sponsored by the University of California Office of the President. CMST is designed to provide undergraduate students with intensive fieldwork experiences in middle and high school mathematics and science classrooms. Students complete up to 15 hours per week in partner schools under the guidance of mentor teachers, while earning a stipend for their time.

The Student Initiated Academic Preparation (SIAP) Program, formerly known as Student Initiated Outreach, provides funding to student organizations that are seeking to implement projects which focus increasing the academic achievement and development of educationally disadvantaged high school students in order to assist them in preparing for a post-secondary education.

The Center for Opportunities and Diversity in Engineering (CODE) is charged with promoting and facilitating diversity within The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. CODE works to achieve this goal by providing academic, professional and social support for underrepresented students.

The UCI ADVANCE Program promotes a culture of inclusion for women and minority faculty through equity and diversity in recruitment, retention and advancement, and leadership opportunities. UCI ADVANCE analyzes data on faculty equity and outreach, sponsors seminars for faculty diversity and inclusion, and provides support for school-based equity advisors who monitor recruitments and establish mentorship and orientation programs for new faculty.

The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity provides some administrative and financial support to faculty and staff diversity affinity groups (http://www.oeod.uci.edu/affinity/index.html), and the UCI Medical Center has a diversity committee that plans educational and cultural events at the hospital for medical staff. OEOD also provides several programs open to staff, including the Diversity Development Program, the Orientation & Professional Training Program for limited-English-proficient staff, Diversity in Medicine, and Campus Conversations, a brown-bag series on diversity-related topics.
