Douglas Haynes, the director of the ADVANCE Program, is a tenured faculty member who coordinates the advancement of a principal objective of the campus strategic plan: faculty and graduate student equity and diversity. To this end, he serves on key committees/groups that advise the provost, including the Academic (Dean’s) Council, Academic Planning Group, and Provost Management Group among others. His office oversees several dedicated programs that are designed to sustain institutional transformation through raising awareness about equity and diversity, removing hurdles and barriers to inclusive excellence, and advancing work-life balance. The centerpiece of these interventions is a team of 14 faculty equity advisors who are tasked with promoting an inclusive culture for faculty and graduate students in their respective schools. The director not only trains and coordinates these equity advisors, but also the 30-plus faculty graduate program mentors.
