A brief description of the plan:
The UCI Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) circulation element includes a bicycle and pedestrian circulation plan. This document identifies bicycle and pedestrian circulation planning principles, an existing and proposed bicycle and pedestrian circulation network, and the identification of planned grade-separated bicycle and pedestrian crossings over campus roadways to reduce bicycle/pedestrian/vehicle conflicts and promote bicycle and pedestrian circulation and safety. In addition, UCI has worked in partnership with the city of Irvine to integrate the campus bikeway plan as an element of the Irvine Bikeway Master Plan. The resulting city plan facilitates collaborative bikeway planning at a regional level and allows the city and campus to jointly plan and apply for grant funding for UCI bikeway network improvements. As a result of this partnership several bikeway links on the campus have been funded through joint city/campus planning and bikeway grant applications. A diagram of the existing and proposed LRDP bikeway and pedestrian network can be found on pages 74-77 of the 2007 LRDP.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Specific campus bicycle plans are created for bike parking, bike-sharing, bicycle safety and enforcement, and bicycle improvements. The campus is designated a silver level Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists. In addition, the city of Irvine, in which UC Irvine is cited, has included the campus in its Bicycle Transportation Plan (revised 2011) and works in partnership with campus planners and transportation staff to apply for and receive bicycle infrastructure grants for major projects.
