A brief description of the institution's Tree Campus USA program:
UC Irvine recently was named a "Tree Campus USA" for the third year in a row. The Green and Gold Plan, a supporting element of UCI’s Long Range Development Plan, guides the sustainable planning and management of the campus’s urban forest. A tenant of the 1963 LRDP landscape supplement was for the campus to be landscaped as an arboretum with species that are environmentally suited to the campus site. The Green and Gold Plan ensures this tenant through a tree list that includes a diversity of species to ensure the long-term health of UCI’s urban forest and environmentally sound landscape management practices. The UCI advisory tree committee is comprised of faculty, students, and staff, provide advice to the campus regarding UCI’s sustainable landscape program.
