A list of the institution level sustainability learning outcomes:
A set of “Campus Goals for Undergraduate Learners” were adopted by the Academic Senate in April 2002, to (1) articulate what we aspire for in student learning; (2) help to establish campus priorities and guide decision making related to student development; and (3) guide academic programs in the review of how their classes and course requirements interact with the goals to demonstrate educational effectiveness.
The following goals are sustainability supportive:
- Cultivate the virtues. Indicators: Ethics, responsibility, honor, tolerance, respect for others, empathy
- Develop a global perspective. Indicators: Broad intellectual and cultural experience through active engagement, an understanding of the interactions among the individual, society, and the natural world

Number of graduates from degree programs that require an understanding of the concept of sustainability:
7,145
A brief description of how the figure above was determined:
All degree programs offered by UC Davis were analyzed to see if they included sustainability-focused learning outcomes. Programs from the Undergraduate Program and Graduate Program credits were added to the resulting list if they were not already present. Several more degrees which require successful completion of one or more sustainability-focused courses were also added to the resulting list, though this step was performed selectively rather than exhaustively, resulting in a conservative estimate for the final value reported above.
Once the sustainability-focused degree programs were identified, the list of individual students who graduated from such programs was filtered from the total list of all students who graduated over the course of three academic years: 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22. Duplicate student counts (arising when a student received two or more degrees, such as a double major or a major and a minor) were removed to arrive at the final results.
