Yes
A brief description of the diversity, equity, and/or inclusion recognition:
UC Davis achieved a diversity index of 0.72 based on the U.S. News 2020 Campus Ethnic Diversity ranking. U.S. News uses data drawn from an institution’s total undergraduate student body during Fall of 2018.
In July 2019 the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and its Engineering Deans Council (EDC) announced UC Davis as a Bronze Award recipient for the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program. The honor is given to colleges and universities that signed and executed the ASEE Deans Diversity Pledge; have an infrastructure to support diverse populations; have at least one K‐12 or community college pipeline activity; implement at least one additional program or initiative from a list of proven practices; and have a Diversity and Inclusion Plan that includes measurable goals designed to improve diversity. While the Silver and Gold Level criteria are currently being redesigned, UC Davis was also recognized as exemplar.
In Winter 2019 The National Jurist ranked UC Davis School of Law No. 2 on a list of the country’s most diverse law schools. Sixty law schools in total made the honor roll, with twenty of those schools making rank. The honor roll is “determined by evaluating the percentage of minority faculty members and the percentage of students in five racial groups and comparing those to national averages.” (The National Jurist).
In January 2020 UC Davis was ranked No. 52 among 500 employers on the Forbes’ annual ranking of “America’s Best Employers for Diversity”. The global media company reported that it based its 2020 ranking primarily on data from a survey of 60,000 Americans working for companies and organizations with at least 1,000 employees each in the United States. In anonymous responses, survey takers rated their employers in several dimensions of diversity, including gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and disability.
Additionally, UC Davis was ranked No. 12 on the 24/7 Wall Street list of 25 United States colleges and universities with the most diverse student bodies. UC Davis was the most diverse out of the six large California public schools on the list. There is a 78.6% chance that two randomly selected students on the UC Davis campus would have a different racial or ethnic background, or differ in U.S. citizenship status. At UC Davis Asian students make up 32.9% of American undergraduates; white students comprise 28.7% and Hispanic students 27% of American undergraduates. With more than 1,600 total students identifying as multi-racial (accounting for 6.4% of the total American undergraduate population), UC Davis also has one of the largest multi-racial populations of any U.S. higher learning institution.
