UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services is widely recognized for its sustainability. It features produce grown on the campus’s own Student Farm, and the Cuarto Dining commons is LEED Gold for Commercial Interiors v2.0. All of the UC Davis Dining Commons (Cuarto, Segundo, and Tercero) operated under UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services were certified as Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Certified by BERC (Business Environmental Resource Center) — which is a third party certification approved by AASHE— in January 2015 and remain certified and in compliance on certification criteria. Additionally, UC Dining Services became the first University of California campus and the second university in the nation to be certified for Responsible Epicurean and Agricultural Leadership (REAL) in 2016.

The Dining Commons make up three of the nineteen recognized food service operations and account for 64.08% of the food and beverage sales on campus.
