A brief description of the methodology or tool used to calculate the institution’s nitrogen footprint:
UC Davis uses SIMAP (Sustainability Indicator Management & Analysis Platform) to calculate its nitrogen footprint. The program is a simple, comprehensive, & affordable online tool for measuring, calculating, and reporting an institution’s nitrogen footprint. We input data from our greenhouse gas inventory, as well as additional scope 3 data such as commuting and food consumption.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Elizabeth Castner, who assisted in the creation of the SIMAP program, is a graduate student at UC Davis. She has been instrumental in gathering, understanding, and calculating data, and inputting this data into the reporting tool.

The campus continues to work on acquiring animal data, and has not yet accounted for this category in the current nitrogen footprint.

The nitrogen footprint will be available as a pie chart through the Office of Sustainability, and is also attached to this credit, since the details within the SIMAP website are not publicly accessible. Any questions regarding the details of our nitrogen footprint or any general questions can be directed to the UC Davis Office of Sustainability at sustainability@ucdavis.edu.

Kiana Lee, student employee in the Office of Sustainability, assisted in compiling this credit response.
