Our student-fee funded sustainability grant program, The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF), has granted funds to two projects designed to help alleviate food insecurity at UC Davis. TGIF granted funds to help repair an electric vehicle used by the campus chapter of the Food Recovery Network so that more food could be rescued. TGIF also granted funds to start the Freedge project, of which there are currently two Freedge refrigerators on campus, helping people share food, reduce food waste, and reduce food insecurity (https://foodwastecollaborative.ucdavis.edu/project/freedge).
