The Chief Sustainability Officer and the Sustainability Consultant presented at the Canadian Green Building Council National Conference and at the Alberta Chapter CaGBC event. The presentation was a case study of the WELL Building Standard as applied to a LEED Platinum Project and was titled Health and Wellness in Green Buildings.

The Caretaking Manager also presented at the Western Canada University Physical Plant Administrators Conference about the sustainability projects currently underway at the University of Calgary through facilities.

For the past 25 years, the Emerald Awards have recognized and celebrated the outstanding environmental achievements of large and small businesses, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups, youth and governments.

Uniquely Albertan, the Emerald Awards are the only award of their kind in our country, showcasing environmental excellence across all sectors. In 2016, the University of Calgary submitted its High Performance Green Building Program as a case study and was recognized as a finalist.

The Chief Sustainability Officer chaired the 2013 Canadian Green Building Council National Awards program. The CSO is also a Director of the CaGBC. Various members of the Office of Sustainability sit on sustainability committees such as the Public Engagement Technical Advisory Group for AASHE, Buildings Technical Advisory Group for AASHE and also hold leadership positions at the Canadian Green Building Council - Alberta Chapter.

The Waste Coordinator at the University of Calgary has attended meetings at partner institutions such as Olds College and Mount Royal University to provide advice and direction on setting up a waste reduction program. These meetings have resulted in knowledge sharing among the institutions around alternate vendors, products and approaches towards reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
