Office of Sustainability orientation programming includes: • Optional Day of Service in the community garden (hands-on volunteer opportunity for incoming students) (through Centre for Community-Engaged Learning) • Information & volunteer recruitment booth on Office of Sustainability/campus sustainability at the Campus Expo for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Student Resource Fair, and Parent/Family Orientation where staff introduce sustainability to incoming students in its multiple dimensions (economic, social, wellbeing, nature) and recruit volunteers for Student Educator programs • Optional sustainability Tour of the campus as an elective session in the week long orientation program (covering environmental, economic, social, and wellbeing aspects of sustainability); • Waste/recycling engagement/game at UCalgaryStrong community-building event; • Waste-free events (orientation barbeque) Leadership and Student Engagement operates the following programs relevant to sustainability: • The ucalgarycares Day of Service program provides students with an opportunity to contribute to their local, national, and international communities through different service-learning projects with a social-justice lens • The BLING BLING fundraiser provides students with a bucket into which they can donate coins or bills which are counted for points during the event. The fundraiser is turned into a game and the winning faculty is announced during the KICKOFF orientation football game • The President’s Orientation BBQ is a zero-waste event, all materials are compostable or recyclable • Arrive. Survive. Thrive. Is a campus resiliency program that teaches incoming students how to utilize campus resources to facilitate their academic and personal success • LSE facilitates a play followed by a presentation on sexual consent and the legal rights and responsibilities that constitute informed consent • The Q Centre Open House introduces students to a safe space for the LGTQIA+ community on campus
