A brief description of the assessment(s):
The University of Calgary has conducted a number of assessments of student and employee diversity culture.
We participate in the Canadian National Student Engagement Survey (NSSE) which surveys students on their experiences in post-secondary education. A portion of the NSSE is dedicated to assessing diversity culture. http://nsse.iub.edu/html/survey_instruments.cfm
In 2010, the University of Calgary underwent an Employment Equity Compliance review under the Federal Contractors Program, Human Resources and Skills Development (HRSDC). The purpose of the Compliance Review was to verify that the U of C has put in place an appropriate employment equity program. The compliance review included an employment equity survey of all staff, analysis of our workforce comparing the representation of the four employment equity designed groups to the external labour force, conducting an employment systems review and the creation of a 3 year employment equity plan. The university was found in compliance with the Federal Contractors Program.
On an annual basis we have committed to measuring our equity on campus using the employment equity survey. To date approximately 60% of campus has completed the employment equity survey. This information has been submitted for consideration as part of workforce planning.

The workforce analysis and the employment systems review was used to build our employment equity plan with hopes that meeting the goals and objectives in the plan will increase diversity/inclusiveness on campus. Both the workforce analysis and plan are listed on the updated Workplace Diversity and Employment Equity website: http://www.ucalgary.ca/careersuofc/diversity-equity
Since the completion of the compliance review, HR in consultation with the Workplace Diversity and Employment Equity Committee have made some progress towards the goals of the Employment Equity Plan.
The Advisor to the President on Women’s Issues has also conducted a number of assessments regarding gender on campus and advises the President accordingly. https://www.ucalgary.ca/advisoronwomensissues/
