A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:

The University of Calgary Institutional Sustainability Plan requires all new buildings and major retrofits to attain LEED Certification and further addresses performance requirements in areas such as energy and water efficiency. The university's Design Standards integrate green building performance requirements, product performance requirements and design strategies in alignment with the LEED categories of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.

All buildings currently under construction are registered for LEED certification. The most recently completed project (Vetinary Medicine Clinical Skills Building) attained a LEED Gold Certification. This joins the LEED Platinum Child Development Centre completed prior to this assessment window.
