A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):

Potential SustainabilityON Coordinators submit an application, which includes obtaining supervisor approval, to the U of C Office of Sustainability. Students living in residence notify their Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) that they are participating in the program and receive the RLC's sign off as confirmation that the RLC is aware of this.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

"SustainabilityON Coordinators attend a 1.5 hour
orientation session followed by quarterly training sessions for specific campus sustainability campaigns and initiatives. Training includes hands on activities and delivery of a detailed handbook containing information, tools and resources that assist with the delivery of each campaign. "


A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

The Office of Sustainability provides a staff member who is responsible for training participants and acting as a resource to SustainabilityON Coordiantors. Business units and faculties with SustainabilityON Coordinators can apply for funding via the Energy Efficiency Fund which is U of C's green revolving fund.

A brief description of how the student educators are selected (2nd program):

Students can sign up either by emailing sustain@ucalgary.ca or by adding their name to a volunteer sign up sheet made available at various events throughout the year. Participants indicate the number of hours they are able to volunteer and the specific campaigns that they would like to volunteer their time for.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (2nd program):

The Sustainability Street Team is a very flexible volunteer program designed for those that are unable to formally commit to the time requirements of the SustainabilityON Program or that are interested in rolling out specific initiatives or campaigns. This group is contacted with opportunities as they arise and those that are interested in participating are provided with any training or information necessary for them to successfully complete the task at hand. Training is either provided by the Office of Sustainability or a SustainabilityON Coordinator depending on the nature of the project or task they will be responsible for delivering or participating in.


A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (2nd program):

Any materials or resources required to execute a task or project assigned by the institution are funded by the institution. Sustainability Street Team members looking to implement a self selected project can either contact the Office of Sustainability directly with a request for support or funding or contact their faculties or business units SustainabilityON Coordinator who in turn can submit a funding request via the revolving energy fund.
