The Faculty Recruitment Guide is designed to assist selection committees in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting the best candidate for tenure and tenure-track faculty positions. The guide is intended to provide tools to develop a selection process that is bias-free, that complies with federal government regulations on hiring foreign academics, and that avoids potential complaints about human rights and privacy violations. Guidelines for diversity, equity, and using inclusive language are highlighted for all hiring processes.

FACULTY EQUITY AND DIVERSITY INITIATIVES
UBC’s Senior Advisor to the Provost on Women Faculty (http://broadcastemail.ubc.ca/2011/09/28/appointment-of-a-senior-advisor-to-the-provost-on-women-faculty/?login) promotes faculty diversity through policy development, advancement and leadership, ongoing research and assessment, and transformation of the work environment. In collaboration with departments, faculties, institutes and centres across UBC, as well as peer institutions internationally, UBC is building practices and structures for review, rewards, recognition, advancement, leadership, and support. The expected outcome is to establish UBC as a leader in strategically attracting and developing outstanding faculty from the broadest talent pools.
ACADEMIC EQUITY INITIATIVES
Arising from UBC’s Action Plan Renewing Our Commitment to Equity and Diversity (http://equity.ubc.ca/renewing-our-commitment/) in response to the President’s Task Force on Gender-based violence and Aboriginal stereotypes report and recommendations, the Special Advisor to the Provost Academic Equity Initiatives, is the lead on key commitments articulated in the Plan, and the development and implementation of Faculty-specific approaches to implementing equity and inclusion.
GENDER DIVERSITY IN LEADERSHIP FORUM

An annual Gender Diversity in Leadership Forum focuses on specific faculties to connect female faculty members to leaders in their faculty and the university at large. Projects and initiatives seeded here inform faculty policies and projects following. A Leadership Advisory Group has been formed to reflect upon and review the existing leadership opportunities available currently at the university with a lens to improving and expanding these offerings. Increasing diversity in leadership channel is a primary objective of this group.
