Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
UBC’s wastewater is handled by the Metro Vancouver regional wastewater treatment infrastructure. The Centre for Interactive Research in Sustainability (CIRS) building includes an on-site living machine type wastewater treatment system that incorporates natural plant systems, ; however this system was in an extended commissioning phase during the performance year. The UBC Sewer Discharge Monitoring Program ensures compliance with bylaw requirements. Waste water discharges are sampled twice a year from monitoring points on South West Marine Drive and North West Marine Drive. The samples are tested for organic load, hardness, pH, various metals and radioactivity. The results are compared with the Metro Vancouver Sewer Use Bylaws to ensure compliance. All UBC Vancouver waste water discharges tested so far have been within the regulatory limits. More information is available online at: http://riskmanagement.ubc.ca/environment/sanitary-sewers.
